Strategic Planning

Our futures are so uncertain. That does not mean we don’t need a plan. Being mindful of the external environment can keep an organization nimble. Changes in the outside world can dramatically impact performance. We can prepare for those possibilities. A good strategic planning process needs a vision of where you want to go and an honest assessment of your capacity to achieve that vision.

Here are ways I can help you related to strategy:

Research

Collecting qualitative or quantitative data from key constituents is crucial to understanding your impact on communities. Research can be an important step in the strategic planning process; in some cases, it can also stand alone. We can determine together whether surveys, focus groups or interviews are the best method. Knowing who to interview, how to motivate them, and what questions to ask are key considerations. Sometimes a neutral convenor can be the best method at getting at important information that leads to informed solutions.

Planning

The process of creating a plan should be swift and efficient. I can teach you adaptive change strategies and why they are so critical for nonprofits. The world changes too quickly for old-fashioned plans that sit on the shelf in 3-ring binders. The speed of change is only going to increase. We can build in innovation and an entrepreneurial attitude allowing a kind and skillful response to the environment. We will identify the resources needed to achieve the goals and clear outcomes that will advance the mission. Most importantly, we will ensure that everyone has a clear understanding of the plan, so everyone pulls in the same direction.
