Leadership Development

To quote Peter Drucker: “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.”  Leaders of our nonprofits translate vision into reality and improve the lives of our communities. Our region is fortunate to have so many dedicated leaders providing critical services. We must nurture and sustain them. 

Here are three ways I can help with leadership development

Board Development

Whether assessment, recruitment, or training are needed, together we can create a strategy to develop your board with people, policies, and more. A good board doesn’t just happen. Boards need a common understanding of mission, vision, and expectations of performance. Too often, these things are implicitly assumed and not explicitly stated. Best practice in governance is a core component of any high functioning organization. I can help identify gaps as well as strengths, and train board members to take on new roles.

Facilitation

A good facilitator helps you uncover and give direction to what you already know. A well-facilitated process gets voices and ideas on the table that may have been overlooked or been unheard. I can lead a discussion that surfaces new ideas, airs conflicts constructively, and stays focused on the subject at hand.

Coaching 

For nonprofit professionals, work life can sometimes seem like a white-water rafting trip. There are days when all you can do is paddle your hardest to keep from capsizing. For some executive directors, it is also a lonely job and hard to find a trusted person to talk to.

Nonprofit leaders need support. Coaching is a direct way to provide that support. I can draw upon my decades of experience, including my own time as an overworked, under resourced executive director. My focus is on active listening and problem solving. I can work with organizations to protect and rejuvenate our nonprofit leaders who are running some of the most important organizations in our communities.
